Best and Greatest
They were plain by all accounts. Fishermen for the most part with a tax collector thrown into the mix. They were characterized as “ignorant and unlearned men”. You have to believe that among the scribes and the priests they were in over their heads. But for all their plainness and red neck qualifications Jesus chose them…all of them…each of them.Yet you have to wonder how any of them could boast in being the “greatest”. But they all believed that and frequently argued about it. They all had reason enough to be humble but for whatever reason Jesus saw them as immensely valuable. He somehow convinced each of them that he loved him…each one of them…that he was best and greatest.I guess that’s our testimony too. That he picked me out and made me feel important. I must be the greatest. It must be true…the cross says so.
